Hedvig Glans

I am affiliated to research at the Department of Medicine, Huddinge at KI. Moreover, I also have an assignment as expert coordinator in outbreak preparedness and response at the Centre for Health Crises.

Outside my work at KI, I work as a specialist doctor in infectious diseases and I am the Head of the Division for inpatient care at Karolinska University Hospital Huddinge, which includes both infectious disease wards and consultation.

Previously I have worked, among other things, as a medical expert in infectious diseases at the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare, and as an infectious disease medical doctor and investigator at the Public Health Agency of Sweden.

My research interest lies in the field of infectious diseases, both in terms of handling and treatment of highly infectious diseases and outbreaks, as well as vector-borne infections. My PhD thesis was on the parasitic disease cutan leishmaniasis, called: Cutaneous leishmaniasis – treatment and genetic mechanisms affecting outcome.

I conduct my post doc in Sara Gredmark Russ' research group, where the focus in on acute viral diseases, with a particular interest in tick borne encephalitis (TBE-virus). Insights on acute viral diseases underlying reasons could be used in studies on other viral diseases and in potential future outbreaks of new viral diseases.
