Om mig
I am a pediatrician and pediatric allergologist at Sachs´ Children and Youth Hospital where I have worked since 1996. I slipped into research after my internship and defended my theses in 2006 at Karolinska Institutet with the dissertation "Cytokine profiles, infections and IgE sensitization in childhood". In 2014, I became an associate professor of pediatrics at Karolinska Institutet and supervise several doctoral students in the research area of allergic diseases. In 2011-2020, I was a specialist in child allergology in Stockholm, and a board member (treasurer, chairman) of the Swedish Association for Allergology (SFFA) 2013-2019. I have worked with national guidelines for anaphylaxis under the auspices of SFFA as well as European guidelines for food allergy and anaphylaxis for the European Association of Allergology and Clinical Immunology (EAACI). I also work with patient education, including camp activities for children and parents under the auspices of the Asthma and Allergy Association. I have been participating in the department of Clinical Science and Education, Södersjukhuset, Karolinska Institutet, doctoral admissions committee since 2020. My current clinical work is a out-patient activity at the Sachs´ Children and Youth Hospital.
Forskningsbeskrivning
My research began with a cohort study in which the children, to allergic and non-allergic parents, were born into the study. The children are followed from 0-20 years of age. One of my doctoral students has met the young adults at the age of 20 and now data processing is underway with a focus on risk and health factors for the development of allergic diseases. The cohort has so far given rise to 30 published articles and is included in 15 dissertations.
My current research focus is food allergy, both IgE- and non-IgE-mediated food allergy, allergy diagnosis and treatment. We have shown that diagnostics with IgE antibodies against individual proteins in foods from the plant kingdom, eg peanuts, hazelnuts, provide a more reliable diagnosis. We can now distinguish between "real" allergies that can cause severe allergic reactions compared to cross-reactions with pollen that give mild reactions.
I am responsible in Sweden for an international multicenter study with oral immunotherapy to peanuts in children 4-17 years. In addition, I am one of two responsible for the only Swedish oral immunotherapy treatment study for peanut allergic toddlers, 1-3 years, the Smacho study. The study is ongoing at Sachs´ Children and Youth Hospital´s research department. In a national multicenter oral immunotherapy study for milk allergic children, 5-15 years, I am one of the responsible for the study. I am also conducting a study on eosinophilic esophagitis, diagnosis and treatment, together with researchers at Bioclinicum. I supervise 4 doctoral students and some resident physician in pediatrics.
