Forskningsbeskrivning

The Östman research group performs translation studies on autocrine and paracrine growth factor signaling in the tumor microenvironment, with particular emphasis on regulation of cancer-associated fibroblasts.

Selected qualifications (2022)

Author of more than 160 original research articles and 45+ reviews (Nat Rev Can, Cancer Cell, Trends in Cell Biology and Trends in Cancer); h-factor 64 (web of Science).

Completed supervision of 14 PhD students and 19 post-doctoral fellows of which the majority continues academic research. Six of these are full professors and 8 have been promoted to PI or junior PI positions.

Coordinator STARGET – a Linnaeus center for translational studies on the tumor microenvironment with funding from VR 2006-16.

Co-director StratCan – the strategic research program in cancer at Karolinska Institutet, 2010-18.

Member of the Nobel assembly (2020-).

Ad-hoc reviewer for the Nobel Assembly and the Royal Academy of Science (Sjöberg Prize).
