Cecilia Mellstrand Navarro studied medicine at the Karolinska Institutet, and is specialized in Orthopaedic and Hand surgery. Her thesis was defended at the Karolinska Institutet in 2014. Cecilia Mellstrand Navarro has research experience from the orthopedic traumatology field and has run three randomized controlled studies investigating distal radius fractures. She has experience in registry studies, health economy analyses and qualitative studies, and is currently involved in research regarding distal radius fractures, digital nerve injuries, rehabilitation and wrist prosthetics. She is a docent at the Karolinska Institute since June 2021.

The Swedish Agency for Health Technology Assessment and Assessment of Social Services (SBU, Statens beredning för medicinsk och social utvärdering) is an independent national authority, tasked by the government with assessing health care and social service interventions resulting in HTA (Health Technology Assessment) reports. Cecilia Mellstrand Navarro was contracted 2015 – 2017 as a medical expert in the creation of the report “Treatment Options of Arm Fractures in the Elderly – A Systematic Review and Assessment of the Medical, Economic, Social and Ethical Aspects. Swedish Council on Health Technology Assessment. Cecilia Mellstrand Navarro was also assigned chairman of an interprofessional group with the aim to create nation-wide treatment recommendations for distal radius fractures, initiated by the The Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (Sveriges Kommuner och Landsting, SKL).
