I am a senior researcher and group leader, including 60% research and 40% teaching, at KI, ANA Futura, Dep of Laboratory Medicine, Div of Clinical Microbiology. I was appointed Associate Professor of Virology at KI in 2009.
Since September 2005, after receiving major project grants from SIDA and the Swedish Research Council, I have been working as a independent researcher and group leader at Karolinska Institutet. I have been the chief supervisor of 4 PhD students who have graduated. I am currently collaborating with several research groups in Sweden, Denmark and USA.
In total, I have published 44 original articles (10 as first author and 13 as last author), 2 reviews, 1 commentary, and 1 letter in peer reviewed journals. Three of my articles publishes are among top 5% cited publications, one as first and one as last author. Of my articles, the vast majority is published independent of my thesis supervisor.

I have extensive experience managing multiple research projects in the following areas: clinical immunology, virus- and cancer-specific T cell responses, MHC-peptide-TCR interactions, antigen-specific T cell function and exhaustion in blood and tissue, transcriptional activation and regulation of T cell responses, bioinformatics, HIV pathogenesis, molecular biology, viral evolution, antiretroviral therapy, antiretroviral (drug) resistance. Using this knowledge, I have established an advanced system to conduct detailed studies of T cell pathology during chronic viral infections and cancer. Internationally, I have developed a reputation in the fields of T cell induced escape and selective pressures, HIV pathogenesis, molecular mechanisms influencing T cell function as well as in T cell immunology assays.
I have been actively serving as the educational board member for the division of clinical microbiology at the Department of Laboratory Medicine, KI, since 2016.
Since 2014, I am the course organizer (35% of full-time) for Project work 15hp in Biomedical Laboratory Science (Level-C, se; kandidat) arranged at Karolinska Institutet, Department of Laboratory Medicine. Subsequently, in 2016, I was appointed as the course organizer (15% of full-time) for Degree Project in Diagnostic Cytology, 15 credits, level AV (second cycle, se; magister) arranged at Karolinska Institutet, Department of Laboratory Medicine. My role is to warrant progress from level-C, standardize course curriculum, guidelines, and evaluation forms. My assignments as course organizer also includes meetings with the examiners and leading their work to ensure equal evaluation for the students.
In addition, I have extensive experience from serving in the teaching, mainly in the forms of lectures and seminars at the preclinical or graduate programs at Karolinska Insitutet (MTC and LABMED).
