Occupational healthcare - information for managers and HR representatives
As a manager you may turn to our Occupational Healthcare Company, Avonova, in matters concerning the work environment, rehabilitation and work-related ill health.
Avonova Healthcare is Karolinska Institute’s Occupational healthcare contractor, responsible for work environment health and work-related rehabilitation. Occupational healthcare provides expertise to support KI’s responsibility as an employer to remain both proactive and responsive, in order to ensure safety and wellbeing in our workplaces. Several of the services, such as "Stress management" and "Investigation of abusive discrimination" for example can, if you as a manager so wish, also be ordered for proactive purposes. Occupational healthcare employees are bound by doctor-patient confidentiality. You can access a range of services including:

Services and appointments
As a manager, or HR representative, you can access all services included in KI’s occupational healthcare service contract and by clicking on any of the services above you can read more about what is included in each service. You can also contact any of Avonova’s Healhcare Centers for advice regarding what services best meet your needs.
All visits require an appointment. Appointments can be made by calling any of the Avonova Healthcare Center (see below), via e-mail, or by using the “Avonovaportal”.
What you need to inform your employees about
Please inform your employees' that they can order the following services themselves by contacting any Healthcare Center by phone or email:
"Anonymous Personal Appointment" (EAB)
Two appointments per year with a specialist of your choosing: doctor, nurse, physiotherapist, ergonomist, behavioural scientist, or psychologist.
If additional appointments are required, these must be confirmed with you as immediate manager or the local HR at the department.
The employee or staff from Avonova will contact you so that you, in consultation with Avonova, can decide what is needed to move forward and avoid ill health or sick leave.
Treatment for needle sticks/ other cuts or blood contamination
Evenings and weekends, contact regular healthcare according to existing workplace routines. Also remember to check that the incident is reported internally in the Incident Reporting System.
Vaccination against Hepatitis B, and, as needed, Hepatitis A + B
As a manager you also need to inform new employees, who at work are at risk of being exposed to blood infection due to stab wounds, cuts or blood splashes, that they can contact Avonova and make an appointment for vaccination (before they start their work).

Special ordering routines
There are special ordering routines for statutory medical check-ups and vaccinations.
The common funds pay for the services that employees can order themselves (EAB and measures in the event of a stab wound / blood infection) as well as the Statutory medical checks and certain vaccinations. There is also an ergonomics package and certain services within the systematic work environment work that are paid for by the common funds.
Other services, which are ordered by you as a manager or HR, are paid for locally and invoiced to the department. You can always contact one of Avonova's health centers for advice on which service is most suitable.
You who are the Administrative Manager or local HR have access to the Avonova portal. Here you can place orders, send messages and documents to Avonova and see the orders that you or other managers have made at your department. If you are an invoice recipient, you must compare the specifications in the Avonova portal with the invoices that come to the department.
